4 Simple Ways to Reduce Waste Today
I’ve recently started incorporating a few awesome products into my routine to help reduce plastic and paper waste. Given the state of the planet and the climate change crisis we’re up against, it’s time to start implementing some permanent lifestyle changes to help make our world a more sustainable and beautiful place.
I’m NOT sponsored to promote any of these products— I simply want to share a few sustainable kitchen products that have transformed my daily routine. If you follow my referral link to Grove Collaborative on this page, you can receive a free 5 piece Mrs.Meyers gift set and I will earn referral credit to my Grove account. Yay!
replace plastic wrap
ALTERNATIVE: BEE’S WRAP
This is a great alternative to plastic wrap. It has an amazing texture and it easily folds and molds into any shape. It’s a little pricey, but trust me it’s worth it!
SUSTAINABLE, NATURAL ALTERNATIVE to plastic wrap.
WASHABLE, REUSABLE, & COMPOSTABLE. Use the warmth of your hands to soften the wrap and form over a bowl, container, or piece of food. As the bees wax paper wrap cools, it creates a seal and stores food naturally. Wash in cool water with mild soap and air dry.
ECO-FRIENDLY INGREDIENTS. Made of organic cotton, sustainably harvested bees wax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin.
Replace plastic sandwich & freezer bags
ALTERNATIVE: STASHER BAGS
Stasher bags provide an excellent alternative to plastic sandwich / freezer bags. They’re easy to clean and they come in a variety of colors and sizes to meet all your storage needs. Although more expensive then traditional plastic bags, they are high quality and will last a long time.
100% pure non-toxic platinum silicone: the world's first fully functional, self-sealing, non-plastic bag.
Unlike traditional plastic bags, these bags are BPA, PVC, LATEX FREE.
DISHWASHER & MICROWAVE SAFE: platinum food-grade silicone is safe for use in the freezer, microwave, dishwasher, boiling water, and oven up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit

SHOP SMART: Bulk FoodS & Produce
You may have noticed the bulk foods section at your local Whole Foods. If you live in San Francisco, Rainbow Grocery is basically a bulk foods heaven and I highly recommend checking them out. Shopping the bulk foods section with reusable produce bags can greatly reduce plastic / packaging waste. Plus, you can transfer your bulk foods to Mason jars at home for easy accessibility and a visually pleasing display.
ALTERNATIVE: Earthwise reusable mesh produce bags
These bags provide a convenient alternative to plastic bags and paper bags at the grocery store. Throw a few of these produce bags into your reusable grocery shopping tote and store them in the trunk of your car. This way, they’re ready to go next time you’re out shopping.
MULTI-PURPOSE & CONVENIENT: With three different sizes, these bags are not just for produce! You can use these to shop the bulk foods section too: rice, beans, quinoa, lentils, granola, nuts, and seeds.
TOGGLE CLOSURE: Each bag has a small toggle closure to keep everything secure.
MACHINE WASHABLE : Just throw these in the wash on gentle cycle and hang dry.
COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT MESH: Produce bags are lightweight and see-through.
I hope that this post has inspired you to start implementing some small but powerful changes to reduce waste and help conserve our planet’s precious resources.
