Interview with The Native Society
1. WHAT DO I DO BEST?
Naturally connect with others. Whether it be a random stranger or one of my regular clients, I always enjoy communicating with fellow humans. I appreciate a good conversation and I love discovering commonalities with the people I encounter in life. Sometimes it only takes a simple gesture, like a smile or a positive verbal communication to make another person feel cared for and appreciated. My natural desire to connect with people allows me to easily relate and form relationships with clients.
2. WHAT MAKES ME THE BEST VERSION OF MYSELF?
I’m open-minded and I love learning. I have a deep desire to grow and expand my consciousness. I crave progress and can embrace change. I’m not afraid of reinventing and rediscovering myself again and again.
3. WHAT ARE MY ASPIRATIONS?
Personal aspirations: To live a healthy and happy life. To continue learning and to inspire those around me to be the best that they can be.
Business aspirations: To start writing more. To teach yoga everywhere. To be able to travel, explore the world, meet new people, and share yoga with anyone willing to learn.
4. MY BIGGEST SUCCESS?
Starting my own yoga business after two years of teaching. One of my main career goals since I began teaching was to work for myself and create my own schedule. So, I went for it—and I love what do. I work hard and I teach a lot, but I always make it to my mat. I practice Ashtanga yoga 6 days per week and I’m a dedicated student of my body. I bring what I learn on my mat to my students and this fulfills and enriches my life. I’m proud of my devotion to this practice and how far I’ve traveled along my yoga journey so far.
5. MY MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT?
Three years ago, I decided to quit my corporate job and travel to India to study yoga. Back then, I was unhappy and I wasn’t taking care of myself properly. I realized that I needed a major life change, and I was excited for the new adventures to come. While I was waiting to board a plane from Mumbai to Goa, I remember sitting in the airport and all of a sudden—I started crying. I felt alone, empty, unsure, and I began to question my decision to travel to India alone in the first place. I debated calling my parents or boyfriend, but I had a feeling that it wouldn’t make me feel any better. I believe this was a turning point in my life, where I realized that nobody else could save me but myself. I was alone on the other side of the planet, with no way to easily turn back. I may have tried to escape my feelings and problems in the past, but all I could do in that moment was accept the way I was feeling and fully experience my emotions in the moment.
I made it to Goa safely and I had an incredible month practicing and studying yoga in India. Once I returned, I knew that yoga was going to be my life’s work. Through this trip I discovered that we as individuals are responsible for manifesting our own happiness. We are responsible for taking care of ourselves and managing our reactions to the highs and lows of life. I realized that if I’m not happy on my own, being around other people won’t make me genuinely happy. Happiness is something we must find within.
